Today more and more civic groups are starting mentoring collaborations to help the young people who live in the communities where the civic group is active. Some mentoring takes place at a school or a community site while other times mentees join their mentor at the workplace.

According to a study done by the Mentor Consulting Group, the benefits of mentoring can extend beyond the impacts on a young person to positively affect the life and work of the volunteer mentor.

WHY DO CIVIC GROUPS INVEST IN MENTORING?

Club Benefits
  • When a club supports mentoring for youth, it is supporting the “impact ready” service opportunity that is widely accessible and shown to have very powerful results with youth
  • It enhances club identity for membership development, public relations and financial development
  • It cultivates future generation of club members who will return as future volunteers who are committed to personal service and to your club brand
Member Benefits
  • Members receive more than they give in service while strengthening the club's impact and fulfillment of its mission
  • Members have heightened sense that they have, in a very direct and personal way, improved a child's life.
  • Members are able to easily connect with a mentoring organization that the club has identified as providing high quality mentoring to the youth who need it most
Community Benefits
  • Strengthened academic and life achievement of local youth
  • Increased support available to the local schools and youth-serving organizations
  • Greater community understanding of how to make a difference in the life of a child
