Encouraging Mentoring

The presidents of Indiana’s public colleges and universities, plus a representative of the state's private post-secondary schools, have signed a declaration encouraging Hoosiers to become mentors to our state’s youth.  A caring and dedicated mentor can provide crucial guidance to his or her mentee—including helping a student decide whether or not to pursue a post-secondary education.

While sometimes portrayed as adversaries in the discussion of education reform in Indiana, Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett and Indiana State Teachers Association (ISTA) President Nate Schnellenberger have a great deal in common—both hail from Southern Indiana, both trained as science teachers and today both say mentoring can play an important role in helping more Hoosier students graduate from high school.  Read more >>>>>
